Opening Activity : 10/15/10

Describe what you think is the difference between a direct and indirect tax in 1-2 sentences.

The difference between a direct and indirect tax is that a direct is for the colonists to have to pay for a certain tax that is related to them. Where indirect is when the tax involves paying for someome/something else that does not help the colonists paying for it.

Activity 1

  • What class of people was more directly affected by the Stamp Act (Rich or poor)? Explain.

The rich are more affected because they use more paper and they buy more items, so it would make sense that they are more affected because now the things taht they need daily cost more.

  • How did the Stamp Act raise concerns among the colonists about Britain’s right to tax them?

They weren't asked for an opinion on how they'd feel about being taxed on these things.

Obituary of the 4 colonists that died at the scene:

1. What is the purpose of the pictures shown in the obituary?
To represent the death of the four engraved initials.

2. How does the author describe the fate of the 4 victims?
He/she says that they "fell in the bloddy Maffacre" of the events that happened on Monday, which was the Boston masacre.

3. Describe how the town of Boston mourned the victims?
They shut down most of the ships and made sure the Bells rung throughout the town and a large number of people gathered to mourn.

4. What does the author’s description of the Boston Massacre tell us about his point of view?
He believes that it was the British's fault that the massacre was caused. And he was kind of angered by the way he wrote it too, but his explanation of what is happening in the town shows that he is a loyal colonist against the British but he is discret by telling only what is occuring not things that he is feeling.
